EXECUTIVE council member of sckds
Dr. EmmaLeigh Gordon, DDS
I have been a private practice owner of a small private practice in Ballard, Seattle, since 2021. We rebranded last year to Hygge (pronounced: Hoo-gah in Danish/ [hai-gie] for ease of pronunciation for the rest of us) Laser Dentistry. The concept of "Hygge" is a Danish word that means focusing on the present moment, spending quality time with people who make them happy, and ultimately finding peace, which is also my vision for the SCKDS.
It is a very stressful time to be in healthcare, and even more stressful in the field of dentistry. My goal for being on the Executive Council for the SCKDS is to provide more opportunities for education at an affordable cost so providers can begin to learn more about innovations in dentistry without having to invest in expensive CE classes just to learn more about the procedures and if they want to start incorporating them into their practice. I want a stronger network of providers who are part of SCKDS to become a referral network to other providers where they can collaborate and provide the best care for their patients, as well as a strong support system for each other.
I am also a clinical instructor in the oral medicine department and work mostly in the DECOD clinic at the University of Washington's School of Dentistry. I strongly believe in protecting the scope of dentistry to include services like facial esthetics, PRF, laser treatments for pain and sleep dentistry.
These services have become increasingly important to patients and dentists. By supporting the integration and protection of these services, I aim to ensure that dentists remain at the forefront of comprehensive healthcare, offering a broad range of treatments that cater to both oral and facial health. With other specialties questioning what is within the scope of dentistry, it is increasingly important to advocate for more education at the University level for these procedures so there is protection for these services within the scope of practice of dentistry.
With a strong passion for provider autonomy, I am committed to advocating for the rights of individual practitioners, particularly in preserving the small private practice model that has long been the backbone of personalized dental care. With a vision to empower dentists to make independent, patient-centered decisions, I am dedicated to maintaining a future where small private practices can thrive without unnecessary restrictions. Through this approach, I hope to safeguard the profession’s ability to adapt and grow. I want to help the Seattle King County Dental Society to help break the traditional, independent and isolating history of dentistry and help its members thrive in a community where we are more integrated and supportive of one another. Ensuring success as a field and as a community, we will have stronger relationships with one another, feel more supported as a group, and then in turn can provide our patients with highest quality care.

Dentist and Sleep Specialist
Dr. EmmaLeigh Gordon is originally from Plymouth, Michigan, a suburb of Ann Arbor, Michigan. She moved to Seattle 10 years ago and has made her home in Washington. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at the University of Michigan. After graduating from the University of Michigan, she worked as an office manager for a dental practice and fell in love with the field of dentistry. She discovered that dentistry combined her passion for helping others with her lifelong hobby of arts and crafts.
Dr. Gordon continued her education at the University of Washington School of Dentistry. She did extra clinic rotations through the DECOD clinic where she learned how to provide care for patients with intellectual and developmental disabilities. She was a peer mentor in this clinic and taught other dental students how to provide care to patients with disabilities.
Dr. Gordon is passionate about holistic health for her patients with an emphasis on clear aligner therapy and sleep apnea. She is a member and has trained with the AIR Institute residency group that focuses on the integration of Airway, Invisalign, and Restorative dentistry, an integrative approach to treating the whole patient. She is also a clinical instructor in the Department of Oral Medicine at the University of Washington School of Dentistry. In her free time, Dr. Emma enjoys spending time with her husband and three kids, Cedar, Aralia, and Fox in addition to gardening and reading.
